Podemos is studying taking legal action against the leader of Vox, Santiago Abascal, for his "hate" statements in which he called for the sinking of the Open Arms, which he described as a "slave ship."
The national deputy of this formation for the province of Las Palmas, Noemí Santana, has announced, in statements in the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife where the ship is docked, that she will also adopt several initiatives in Congress against Abascal, so that he assumes his responsibility for some statements that she has considered "miserable" and that promote a discourse of hate.
"The sense that marks our compass has been lost if we think that rescuing migrant people can become a crime," said Santana, who said that the statements of the leader of Vox constitute "an act of piracy."
She has valued the position of the Government of the Canary Islands in this regard, but has also considered that it is not very coherent that the Canarian president,
Fernando Clavijo, visits and supports the work of the NGO Open Arms but at the same time governs in some municipalities of the Canary Islands, such as Arona or Granadilla, of a "xenophobic and racist far-right and fascist" party in reference to Vox.
In her opinion, if we want to "save democracy" we must leave out speeches like that of Santiago Abascal and we cannot be complicit in any way with a party that has a speech that, in her opinion, threatens human rights.
