Podemos Lanzarote supports and encourages massive participation in the historic mobilization that will take place on April 20 throughout the Canary Islands. In this line, the political formation highlights that committed citizens and environmental groups have joined together to demand "a fundamental change in the tourism model of the islands".
The mobilization, "which is igniting the spark of change in the Canary Islands", for Podemos, represents a significant milestone in the fight for the preservation of the environment and the protection of the natural resources of our islands, in "contrast to the predatory tourism model that is currently imposed". Podemos Lanzarote emphasizes the crucial importance of this citizen movement, which seeks to promote a productive change and a sustainable future that safeguards the future of generations to come.
From Podemos Lanzarote, we have been demanding for years "a large part of the legitimate demands of the protesters, which include the protection of vulnerable natural areas, an Eco-tax, decent access to housing for residents, fair wages in accordance with the increase in business profits, the implementation of effective measures against climate change, and the promotion of sustainable development that respects the unique biodiversity of the Canary Islands".
The purple party rejects "continuing to delve into this model of development and tourist speculation that depletes the natural environment, oppresses the working classes through precarious working conditions, and promotes a voracious and unrestrained urban speculation; depriving citizens of the basic and fundamental right of access to housing". This mobilization is an urgent call to action, both for the regional government and for all political and social forces committed to the defense of Lanzarote.
