The former mayor of Haría, José Torres Stinga, has submitted his resignation as councillor in the municipality this Tuesday. Torres Stinga ran in the last elections with the Municipal Platform of Haría, which in turn had a pre-election agreement with Nueva Canarias. Since those elections, in which his party obtained two councillors, the former mayor had not taken possession of his seat or joined the Plenary.

Now, he has decided to submit his resignation, which has already been registered in the Town Hall. When the Plenary takes note of it, the next person on the list of his party, Elisabet Socas, will enter the Consistory.

Torres Stinga's resignation coincides with the convocation of an extraordinary and urgent Plenary in Haría regarding the lawsuit of the Cueva de los Verdes, initiated precisely by the former mayor in the last legislature. The new government group intends to "suspend" that lawsuit and reach an out-of-court agreement with the Cabildo.

Currently, the final judgment was expected in this case. In the first instance, which arrived when Torres Stinga still held the Mayor's office, the courts ruled in favour of the Town Hall and ordered the Cabildo to return the Cueva de Los Verdes and pay a millionaire compensation to the northern Consistory.
