Deputy in the General Courts for Nueva Canarias, Pedro Quevedo, visited the island of Lanzarote this Thursday. On his public agenda, he was present in different media outlets on the island and met with several associations.

His first visit was to the facilities of the Association of People with Disabilities of Lanzarote (Adislan), accepting the letter that the association itself and family members of the users sent to the deputy. In the meeting, Pedro Quevedo was able to hear firsthand the historical development of the association, with more than 50 years of experience, its problems, demands and current situation.

Among them, he was informed of the "uncertainty" that the third sector collective maintains due to the Social Services Law of the Canary Islands, which presents a Catalog of Services and Benefits "not very in line with the welfare reality of the 21st century", according to Adislan.

The Canarian deputy, together with his party colleagues, the nurse Yoné Caraballo and the councilor Armando Santana, listened and debated with the Board of Directors of Adislan about the existing problem between the Island Council of Lanzarote and the association itself. "The Cabildo must regularize the situation with Adislan in order to give continuity to the services they provide to Canarian society and, in particular, to Lanzarote society”, claimed Quevedo, who was surprised.

In the same way, he appealed to the “social sensitivity” considering that families and users “cannot be affected in the slightest by administrative considerations”, considering, thus, “that there are mechanisms to ensure that Adislan continues to provide this work as it has been doing until now”.

His second visit was formalized at the headquarters of the Interinsular Federation of SMEs of Lanzarote (Felapyme), where he established a meeting with its president and secretary. In it, he was informed of the concerns that small and medium-sized companies have when receiving state and regional aid to face the economic crisis derived from Covid-19. Quevedo conveyed his commitment to SMEs, and declared that “they are the true economic engine of our land".

"As Canarians we have to give special treatment to this sector”, said the deputy, who promised to transmit to his training partner, the vice president and Minister of Finance of the Government of the Canary Islands, Román Rodríguez, the demands of businessmen and the possibility of speeding up aid in some way.

The visit to the island culminated with a walk through the streets of Arrecife, where, hand in hand with Armando Santana, he was able to learn about the intricacies of the capital of Lanzarote. “Arrecife has enormous potential. The society of Lanzarote, administration and citizens, must plan what model of city they want. Count on NC and on me for this purpose”, concluded Pedro Quevedo.
