The delegate councilor on the island of La Graciosa, Alicia Páez, and the mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, held a meeting this Friday at the Government Delegation of Las Palmas, to request Juan Salvador León, Government Delegate of the Canary Islands, "greater presence of the State Security Forces and Corps" on the Eighth Island.
"Given the latest criminal events that have occurred in La Graciosa, the feeling of insecurity among residents has naturally increased, so we have conveyed to the Government Delegate the need to reinforce security with the presence of the Civil Guard, whose services would complement the great work that the agents of the Teguise Local Police carry out", said Alicia Páez, as the highest municipal authority on the island.
"The residents of La Graciosa are demanding greater investment in citizen security and a greater presence of the State Security Forces and Corps, and in their name we have requested this from the regional government", commented Oswaldo Betancort at the end of the meeting.
"In this sense, we have obtained a tacit commitment from Juan Salvador León, to whom we have proposed, as a first solution, the elaboration of a parallel agreement between both institutions, in order to preserve the security of all residents and the large number of visitors that the eighth Canary Island receives during the year", added Betancort.
