The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, has lamented "the malicious use of an informative hoax with the aim of muddying public life and causing political damage." In reference to the serious action taken by the mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, who has echoed false information about the alleged closure of the Canary Islands Ports to boutique cruise traffic, Betancort stresses the importance of adequately contrasting the facts before launching into public opinion.

In addition to issuing a statement yesterday, this Thursday the mayor of Yaiza summoned the island press to the facade of the Cabildo of all to express his rejection of an alleged measure by the Government of the Canary Islands which, according to the information he was handling, would include the Port of Playa Blanca from receiving small cruises.

The southern mayor, based on a false news, went so far as to state that “this decision would threaten the economic interests of Playa Blanca and Lanzarote”, without previously confirming the veracity of said information with the relevant authorities.

Oswaldo Betancort deeply regrets “the irresponsibility of those Lanzarote public representatives who put their political interests before the truth, not hesitating to use false information to deceive voters.” Likewise, the president has stressed the need for a responsible and committed exercise with transparency and truth, fundamental pillars for citizen trust and good governance.

Finally, the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has stated that “this gross error” has given rise to an unnecessary controversy and has recalled the importance of acting with rigor and responsibility in the exercise of public office “because informative hoaxes not only cloud political life, but also harm citizens by generating confusion and unfounded fear”, he lamented, assuring that "he has fought, is fighting and will continue fighting tirelessly until he sees how boutique cruises can dock in our ports and invites the mayor of Yaiza to join this fair claim."
