The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, offered a press conference this Thursday in which he took stock of his four years at the head of the council. At this point, he pointed out that Yaiza "has consolidated as an administration of responsible management and totally healthy, as confirmed by the settlements and reports of the Intervention".
At the same time, Noda insisted that Yaiza "has led" public investment among the municipalities of Lanzarote, "with almost 30 million euros invested in different points, from culture, sports, citizen participation, environment or social services, and here we are only talking about own resources".
"It's simple, we invest more than any municipality on the Island, we have zero debt, we pay our suppliers on time, we have new projects and 11.5 million more to invest this year 2023, without forgetting that we went through a pandemic that affected all productive sectors and our very lives," he said in a statement.
The president advanced that "this same week" he will decree the licenses to put out to public tender the execution of the sports courts of Faro Pechiguera and Femés and a skate park "unique in Lanzarote", which will be located between the court of Aulagar, which also has an improvement project, and the dog park.
Budget in force and more investments
Óscar Noda also confirmed "that the municipal budget did not receive a single allegation, neither from opposition parties nor from individuals, so we already have it consolidated and in force with the incorporation of 11.5 million euros of treasury surpluses of the 23.2 million that we have been able to save and without raising the tax pressure on our neighbors".
In this sense, he stressed that this year "we have already paid 4 million euros to suppliers to date, another index that makes society and job-creating entities trust Yaiza. We are the municipality of Lanzarote with the lowest unemployment among the most populated and the one that registers the highest creation of companies".
The mayor admits that there are initiatives and demands to be satisfied: "We also have projects and co-financing for the family respite center, a need that must be resolved yes or yes, Playa Blanca library, sanitation of Uga and inclusive parks, among other duties".
In this sense, he recalled that "they are million-dollar investments, some of them, which exceed two million euros, although we have the investment capacity and also the confidence of supra-municipal administrations to agree on co-financing formulas, which in the case of these projects that I mention, are already secured and with a financial file".
Administrative collaborations
Óscar Noda pointed out that "within the administrative collaborations we already ceded land for the expansion of the Playa Blanca health center and also for the construction of the first 126 homes for social rent. Now we hope that the Government of the Canary Islands fulfills its commitment." In addition, he acknowledged that an institute is needed in Playa Blanca and that he conveyed this concern to the Ministry of Education. "I have to say that the Ministry of Education has been receptive to this concern as it has been with the annex classroom in Playa Blanca of the School of Languages, which is already underway and about to be resolved," he said.

Investments in different areas
"We are undertaking and will continue to carry out a transversal investment plan that touches different areas of well-being," said the mayor, in this regard, Óscar Noda stressed "that citizens are likely to see more of the paving plan, with a hundred streets improved and comprehensive actions in accessibility in urban areas such as San Marcial del Rubicón and Costa Papagayo or the rehabilitation of the Puerto Calero road, but Yaiza also leads investment in Sports and Culture and Equality, essential axes in the personal development of the population, especially our youngest neighbors".
The mayor detailed the cultural and sports activity, focusing not only on the events, but also on the initiatives that are carried out with cultural and folklore groups and sports clubs from the youth academy. In Sports and healthy leisure, Yaiza is about to premiere the San Marcial del Rubicón sports center and the court in the town center, "in addition to the Playa Blanca Sports Hall, which we have given a new boost and it shows in the increase in the pace of work".
For Yaiza, the reopening of the Uga Market has also been very good news this legislature, which temporarily solved the lack of a building for the Yaiza clinic while the Government of the Canary Islands was carrying out the improvement works on the usual premises, where the City Council ceded an adjacent building for its expansion. "Uga offers quality zero kilometer products, meats, cheeses, jams and another variety that makes the town a meeting point and recognition of the primary sector".
Power lines and cages disappear from Playa Quemada
In the town of Yaiza there are no longer the last four towers that supported the medium voltage line "and on the other hand we already agreed with the Cabildo and Red Eléctrica the burial of the visually impactful power lines that support large towers in towns such as Femés and Las Casitas and the Natural Park of Los Ajaches. It is a million-dollar investment that no local administration can assume alone, but Yaiza has led it as we led the dismantling of the fish farming cages in Playa Quemada that caused so much damage to the seabed".
Óscar Noda also recalled the actions in Heritage and the archaeological intervention project in the Rubicón site and maintenance works in educational centers. "Tourism in our municipality is closely linked to the segments of culture and sports and the results show us that we are on the right track to diversify the offer. We have the example of the Ironman 70.3 and the example of the scenic works".
In terms of transport, Yaiza has already opened a file based on the municipal economic study to issue 10 new taxi licenses and demands that the Cabildo de Lanzarote improve the intercity bus service with new vehicles and hourly frequencies. "We have a connectivity problem with towns such as El Golfo and Playa Quemada and it is also a demand that we continue to transfer to the Island Council".
On the other hand, Óscar Noda valued the investment in technical resources and training for both the Yaiza Local Police and the Civil Protection Group. "The bodies have resources, always improvable, and we spare no effort in doing so, but this legislature has marked an after in terms of citizen security. We put up surveillance cameras and bought the drone unit for surveillance and preventive and rescue services. We are doing our homework to increase the number of Local Police officers, but if it has not been done it is not for lack of money. The Administration is governed by procedures for the incorporation of personnel that must be strictly followed".
