The councilor of the Mixed Group in the Insular Council of Lanzarote, Óscar Noda, has denounced that in the last twenty-four hours, a new episode of "falsehood, inoperability, and cynicism" has once again been experienced by the Cabildo's governing group, headed by Oswaldo Betancort (Coalición Canaria).
During the plenary session held this Friday, the president of the Cabildo and his councilors voted against a proposal presented by Noda to improve public transport on the island. The initiative included the creation of an interchange in Argana Alta, as well as the improvement and installation of bus shelters in municipalities such as Tías, Haría, Playa Blanca, and Yaiza, where in many places there are still no minimum infrastructures to guarantee users' safety, protection, and shelter
The councilor recalled that the Playa Blanca line is one of the most economically profitable on the island's transport service, but, even so, numerous sections of its route lack adequate bus shelters. "An incomprehensible situation that demonstrates the government group's complete disconnect from the reality that citizens suffer daily," he pointed out.
For Noda, the island government's refusal once again highlights its detachment from the real problems of the population and its systematic rejection of any proposal from the opposition, an attitude that, he claims, has become a constant during the current legislative termDuring the plenary debate, the councilor lamented that "the traditional parties limit themselves to hurling reproaches at each other without offering real solutions to the residents of Argana and, in general, of Arrecife and the whole of Lanzarote, who urgently need efficient and effective public transport." In this regard, he criticized that the plenary session once again turned into a crossfire of accusations between Coalición Canaria, Partido Popular, and PSOE, focused on who didn't do what in the past, instead of addressing current problems and proposing future solutions.Likewise, Noda denounced the lack of sensitivity shown by the ruling group in making the president of the association "Hands that don't give, what do you expect?" wait for more than an hour, despite several political groups requesting to bring the item forward to facilitate her intervention. "They talk about being close to citizens while posting empty videos on social media, but in practice, they show neglect and indifference towards those who represent social groups," she statedFinally, the councilor criticized that, after voting against the proposal, the island government issued an official press release "with the aim of manipulating and falsifying the reality that we Lanzaroteans are experiencing." "Not only have they lost an opportunity to set the course and look to the future, but they are also trying to deceive the population. They vote against improvements and then try to sell the opposite," concluded Óscar Noda
