The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, confirmed this Thursday in his appearance before the press that "the municipality has the capacity to incorporate and will incorporate 11.5 million of treasury surplus from the municipal accounts to investments in playgrounds, sports facilities and participatory budgets, among other initiatives, thanks to the excellent result of the settlement of the 2022 Budget, which not only confirms savings of 23.2 million euros, but also reflects 27.3 million of own funds at the close of the year last December”.
Óscar Noda broke down the 2023 municipal accounts before their approval debate in the Plenary, stating that the Budget reaches a historical figure of 25.6 million euros, which is 2.4 million more than that of 2022. “Yaiza has the financial muscle to continue forging the well-being of our people and without owing a single cent, although we could go into debt, but we are not going to do it,” the president highlighted.
To confirm Yaiza's management capacity, the mayor made a retrospective of the investments executed and paid since 2018 "when we left behind the burden of 33 million euros from Coalición Canaria and our municipal debt was reduced to zero euros". Thus, Yaiza invested 1.7 million in 2018; 3.1 million in 2019; 7 million in 2020, 12 million in 2021, "with a strong commitment to the Sports Hall"; and 7.4 million in 2022, for a total of 31.5 million in municipal investments during the last five years.
For Óscar Noda, also councilor responsible for Economy and Finance and also a member of the Finance Commission of the Canary Islands Federation of Municipalities (FECAM), "this evolution leads me to make two readings: the management with results in Yaiza is real and verifiable, and another, that we cannot leave a municipality of more than 17,000 inhabitants in the hands of just anyone, which currently leads the economy of Lanzarote”.
"Yaiza is the municipality with the highest record of business creation in Lanzarote in 2022 and the one with the least unemployment among the five most populated municipalities on the island, according to official data from the Canary Islands Employment Observatory at the close of last February," they point out from the City Council.
The mayor also valued the trust of neighbors in the Administration "because the collection percentage is 70 percent, above the Canary Islands average. We owe ourselves to the citizens and for them we have to continue improving to offer greater well-being. That is our commitment”.
