The Popular Party of Yaiza has denounced on July 22 the "blockade" suffered by the main educational infrastructures of the municipality and has demanded that the mayor Óscar Noda promote once and for all the cession of the land necessary for the Government of Canarias to carry out the actions considered priorities to guarantee the schooling of the students of the municipality.
The spokesperson for the PP, Juan Monzón, considers that "the main educational problem of the municipality is not the lack of planning, but the inability of the City Council to make available to the Ministry the necessary land to make a reality of infrastructures that have been demanded for years".
Monzón recalls that the Popular Party already warned of this situation in 2024, when it presented a motion to the Plenary to demand the cession of the necessary land for the construction of the new Secondary Education Institute of Playa Blanca, an initiative that was rejected by the government group.
"Two years later we see that time has proven us right. While the mayor continues to announce new educational projects, the most urgent needs of the municipality continue to wait because the City Council has not resolved what depends exclusively on it," he states.
The popular spokesperson explains that the Ministry of Education itself continues to consider it a priority to resolve the deficit of compulsory education infrastructures in Yaiza and maintains that the availability of municipal land continues to be the main obstacle to executing it.
Among these actions are the construction of the new IES of Playa Blanca, the expansion of the CEO Montaña Roja and the CEIP Uga, in addition to other necessary infrastructures to respond to the growth of the school population of the municipality.
The PP also recalls that Education recognizes that the public schools in Yaiza have been under high schooling pressure for years, to the point that several of them have had to resort to modular classrooms to meet the existing demand, a situation that, in Monzón's opinion, "shows that solutions cannot continue to wait".
Monzón considers that the situation highlights "an absolute lack of coherence" on the part of the mayor. "We find it positive that Yaiza aspires to have an Integrated Vocational Training Center and the Popular Party supported that initiative. What is not understood is that the City Council announces its willingness to cede land for new projects while it still has not resolved the cession of the land that Education has been claiming for years," he states.
"The mayor intends to project the image of a City Council committed to education when the reality is that it has not yet fulfilled its part to unblock the infrastructures that the municipality urgently needs. If there is a willingness to offer land for new projects, that same willingness should have been demonstrated a long time ago with the actions that affect the compulsory schooling of hundreds of families," argues Monzón.
Therefore, the Popular Party demands that Óscar Noda abandon the policy of announcements and prioritize, once and for all, the cession of the necessary land so that the Government of the Canary Islands can execute the educational infrastructures that Yaiza has been waiting for years.
"The residents of Yaiza do not need more promises or more headlines. They need the City Council to stop being the obstacle so that the most urgent educational infrastructures in the municipality can finally become a reality," concludes Juan Monzón.
