Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-bc) in Arrecife has expressed its deep concern over the lack of progress, one more year, in the construction of the much-needed Argana Alta Health Center, an essential healthcare facility to serve one of the most populated and fastest-growing areas of the capital.
According to the spokesperson for the Canaristas in Arrecife, Sheila Guillén, "it is incomprehensible that, despite the repeated announcements by the municipal government group of PP and CC, the project remains exactly at the same point: without the City Council receiving the land from the Canary Islands Government, without a timeline, and without guarantees that it will be built." Nueva Canarias warns that this situation is generating legitimate doubts among the population about the City Council's true intentions regarding the use of public land reserved for this essential facility.
Guillén recalls that the plot designated for the Health Center "has been the subject of declarations, commitments, and promises for years," but the facts demonstrate "a clear lack of political will to unblock the procedure and make the land available to the Canary Islands Health Service in adequate conditions."
"Argana Alta, Argana Baja, and Maneje cannot continue to be invisible. Three neighborhoods that concentrate more than 15,000 residents deserve their own health center and a Basic Health Zone that offers a broad, accessible, and quality range of health services. The public has the right to know if the City Council is truly committed to this infrastructure or if it is considering other uses for land that should already be at the service of public healthcare," argues Sheila Guillén.
The party requests that the Arrecife City Council immediately and publicly clarify the status of the land's urban planning process, the real reasons for the delays, and the timeline for making it available to the Government of the Canary Islands. They also demand an urgent technical meeting with all parties involved to ensure not another year is lost.
NC-bc concludes that it will remain vigilant to defend the interests of the residents of the neighborhoods and to prevent Arrecife from continuing to accumulate delays in basic facilities that directly affect the quality of life and access to essential services
A project that drags on
For his part, the deputy for Lanzarote and La Graciosa and island president of Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-bc), Yoné Caraballo, points out that for another year the same 100,000 euros continue to be "earmarked" for the Health Center project in the General Budgets of the Canary Islands, but for another year not a single paper has moved to advance its execution"We are fed up with them continuing to deceive the residents of Argana Alta, Argana Baja, and Maneje. What they should do is spend those 100,000 euros on executing the project and present it to the public to put pressure on the Arrecife City Council," says Caraballo, who also believes that "the apathy of CC and PP in receiving the land from the Canary Islands Government may have other interests behind it."
“It is understandable that one begins to question whether they truly want Argana Alta to have a Health Center or, on the contrary, if they want to use that land for other matters that have nothing to do with the well-being of the neighbors,” asks Yoné Caraballo.
