Nueva Canarias- Bloque Canarista de Tías (NC-bc) has expressed its rejection of the project by the municipal government group (PSOE and Podemos) to invest almost 600,000 euros in a new playground in the Matagorda area of Puerto del Carmen.

For the spokesperson of the canaristas in Tías, Juan de León, "this park, which plans to go from the current 257 m² to more than 1,076 m², would include an aeronautical theme with an airplane and a six-meter-high control tower, generating a strong visual impact on the avenue, in addition to being an anachronistic infrastructure compared to the playgrounds that are being implemented in the rest of European States, adapted to functional diversity and with safe and inclusive games.

According to NC-bc, "we not only see in this expenditure an excessive expense for a park that currently does not need remodeling, but we also do not understand how such a quantity of public money can be wasted when there are other parks in Puerto del Carmen that need small improvements such as benches, shade, and green areas to be enjoyed with dignity by families and children."

“We believe that if there is a place where a proper park is truly lacking, it is in the center of the town of Tías, where there is only a small playground with hardly any games. It would be reasonable to design an eco-park there, integrating play areas with green spaces, shade, and rest areas for the whole family, without resorting to disproportionate or environmentally aggressive structures,” says Juan de León, who goes on to say that “we know that the governing group will argue the lack of land in Tías, but we also know that there are plots of land that could be acquired, as is done in other municipalities, to beautify, organize, and make the town center more pleasant.”

Therefore, NC-bc in Tías "we position ourselves against the model of macro-parks and we are committed to a greener, more inclusive, and safer model. It is about opening the doors to the 21st century and making it attractive to go out to our streets and parks."
