The Local Committee of Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-bc) in Tías has denounced the "lack of commitment" of the municipal government group (PSOE-Podemos) to the ecological transition and sustainable mobility, noting that "there is not a single operational electric vehicle charger" in the tourist area of Puerto del Carmen.

For the spokesperson of the Canary Islanders in the municipality, Juan de León, "the two points installed thanks to the agreement with the Ministry of Ecological Transition that granted a nominated subsidy of 200,000 euros for the tourist area of Puerto del Carmen in 2021 (one on Avenida de las Playas and another on Avenida Juan Carlos I) remain out of service in a regrettable state of neglect and have been out of operation for years, without the City Council offering any explanation or timetable for their repair or replacement."

"Tías cannot talk about sustainability when there is not a single electric charger working. It is a clear reflection of the poor management of the government group and its lack of vision in the face of the environmental challenges of the present," said the spokesperson for León, who recalls that "other tourist destinations in the Canary Islands, such as Costa Adeje (Tenerife) or Mogán (Gran Canaria), have more than twenty operational public charging points, while Tías is completely disconnected from sustainable mobility."

“We are an international tourist destination that is sold as sustainable, but we still don't have a single active infrastructure to prove it,” maintains Juan de León.

Thus, NC-bc demands that the City Council "immediately reactivate the electric charging points installed and launch a municipal plan for sustainable mobility, with new stations powered by solar energy that contribute to reducing the carbon footprint and modernizing the destination of Puerto del Carmen."

"The ecological transition cannot remain empty rhetoric or tourist brochures. We must move from words to deeds, and that begins by ensuring that Tías has working electric chargers and a serious plan to decarbonize the municipality," Juan de León concluded.
