The Local Committee of Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-bc) in Tías has expressed "its full support" for the residents of Masdache in the face of the installation of the telecommunications antenna in the La Geria area, an environment of high environmental and landscape value included in the ZEPA (Special Protection Area for Birds) and in the Natura 2000 Network.

The Canarist party, through its representative Yoné Caraballo, has brought this issue to the Ecological Transition Commission of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, highlighting "the environmental impact of installing a 25-meter antenna on volcanic and protected land, and the need for transparency, public information, and citizen participation in all decisions affecting the territory and residential areas2.

Following the response from the Deputy Minister of Ecological Transition, NC-bc states it is "even more concerned about the lack of knowledge and communication between public administrations (Tías City Council, Lanzarote Island Council, and the Government of the Canary Islands), given that the ministry was unaware of the antenna's installation on protected land and its environmental impact. A situation they describe as 'unusual and worrying'".

Yoné Caraballo responded to the counselor with concern about "the lack of supervision and control by the Government of the Canary Islands regarding these types of highly sensitive actions in protected territories such as La Geria," emphasizing that "now any town hall or council could grant licenses to companies to install 25-meter towers without the Government of the Canary Islands knowing or its legal suitability being supervised. Nonsense."

The recent request by American Tower España S.L.U. to install telecommunications equipment in Masdache "evidences the urgency for the Government of the Canary Islands and the Tías City Council to act as guarantors of information and compliance with environmental regulations, ensuring that projects like this do not negatively affect protected and sensitive areas." In this regard, NC-bc considers it "essential that the Government of the Canary Islands issue its own report, demanding that it be subjected to the simplified environmental impact assessment procedure, independent of the one issued by the Cabildo, and guarantees that the regulations for the protection of ZEPA and Natura 2000 Network are fully complied with."

NC-bc reaffirm their "commitment to the defense of Lanzarote's natural, landscape, and cultural heritage, and to citizen participation in decisions that may impact the quality of life of the community". They reiterate "the need for transparency, environmental control, and respect for the territory, as firmly defended by Yoné Caraballo in Parliament".
