Nueva Canarias in Lanzarote asks the people of Lanzarote to "mobilize on June 9 to defend democracy." The deputy of Lanzarote and La Graciosa for Nueva Canarias (NC) and island president of the formation, Yoné Caraballo, attended this Sunday morning, together with the vice president of the formation and island councilor Daisy Villalba, to the capital of Gran Canaria on the occasion of the opening ceremony of the electoral pre-campaign for the European elections on June 9 of the Nueva Canarias-Sumar electoral coalition.
Together with the top leaders of both organizations, the former president of the Government of the Canary Islands Román Rodríguez and the second vice president of the government of Spain, Yolanda Díaz, Caraballo conveyed the support of the organization he leads to the agreement signed by both political spaces in what he calls a "common front of the Canarian and Spanish left united by a greater purpose, which is to defend democratic values and public services such as health and education."
"The moment forces us to understand each other and join forces to stop the wave of fascism that is sweeping Europe and the world. It is a historic moment that we cannot ignore, but rather we must step forward to preserve our democracy and the welfare state," says Caraballo, who considers "a massive mobilization of the population of Lanzarote to forces that will never bow to the fascists of Milei, Abascal or Meloni" is necessary.
Caraballo cites as an example the Minister of Health and leader of the Más Madrid formation, the health professional Mónica García, "who is carrying out transformative policies in the health field, preserving its public and universal character and advancing in challenges such as climate change and mental health."
Caraballo continues, "I do not understand how parties that call themselves center-right liberal and of Canarian obedience do not take sides in denouncing this ultraconservative and warmongering movement that puts the well-being of all at risk, that attacks human rights and wants to take us back to the nineteenth century."
For this reason, NC in Lanzarote demands that the "right-wing parties, both Canarian and Spanish, break all ties with reactionary formations such as Vox that support local governments such as the case of Teguise together with CC and PP."
"If we truly believe in democratic values, tolerance, respect for human rights and freedoms, we must cordon off those who only pour out hatred and fear. In NC we will stand up as we have been doing in the Parliament of the Canary Islands and in the Island Council," says Yoné Caraballo.
