“The objective is to give continuity to the activity of the 18 vessels, with a forecast of becoming 20 soon, with 22 families working on the Órzola dock, which operate in this port,” highlighted the national spokesperson of NC, Luis Campos

The parliamentary Group of Nueva Canarias (NC) has claimed this March 1st, in one of the 46 proposed resolutions contributed by the Canaristas during the Debate on the State of the Canarian Nationality and accepted by the Parliament of the Canary Islands, "that the autonomous Government initiate the process to consider the dock of Órzola, in Haría, as a fishing and commercial port."

“The objective is to give continuity to the activity of the 18 vessels, with a forecast of becoming 20 soon, with 22 families working on the Órzola dock, which operate in this port”, highlighted the national spokesperson of NC, Luis Campos.

“In fact, from Nueva Canarias we observe that, in an activity as identifying as fishing in all of the Canary Islands, and in a very special way on the island of Lanzarote, it has been losing weight, number of families employed and vessels, while on the contrary, in the case of Órzola the number of vessels has been growing, in many cases with young owner sailors”, exposed Campos.

The Canarian deputy has remembered that this “is a claim of the people of Órzola and, in general, of the society of the north of Lanzarote”, which was transferred to the spokesperson of NC by the fishermen in a recent visit to Órzola. “They asked us to take this proposal to the Parliament of the Canary Islands and that is what we have done”, affirmed Luis Campos, who has shown his confidence that the resolution is approved this Thursday during the last day of the Debate on the Canarian Nationality.  “It confirms the firm work, the commitment and the responsibility that we maintain from Nueva Canarias with the people of Órzola and with the north of Lanzarote”, highlighted the Canarian deputy.

As the proposed resolution number 19 of the parliamentary group of NC collects, "the initiative pretends to give an exit to a historic demand of the fishermen that operate constantly in the dock of Órzola to achieve that it is qualified, not only as commercial, but that its qualification is also extended as a fishing port".

Haría in the Parliament of the Canary Islands

On the other hand, the candidate of NC for Lanzarote and La Graciosa to the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Yoné Caraballo, has shown his satisfaction for the fact that the Canaristas have been until now “the only ones that have put the name of Haría on the table of the Parliament of the Canary Islands”. Caraballo has remembered that, together with this initiative, the Government of the Canary Islands approved last December at the request of NC the incorporation of an amendment to the recently approved General Budgets of the Canary Islands for 2023, endowed with 200,000 euros, to write the future project of improvement of the Port of Órzola. “We also presented in its day a PNL (Non-Law Proposal) so that the doctor's office of Mala was open 24 hours”, he has remembered.

“Thanks to Nueva Canarias we have taken proposals from Haría to the Parliament. If the citizens continue trusting us and we manage to obtain a parliamentarian for Lanzarote, we will continue taking new proposals in relation to many of the current challenges, such as the situation of the elderly, unwanted solitude, the improvement of social and sanitary services in the north, as well as public transport, giving continuity to quality sustainable tourism and also the improvement of the enclave classrooms in the north”, Caraballo has highlighted.

“We consider strategic for the economy of the north of Lanzarote to improve the port of Órzola, given that at present it presents more than considerable deficiencies and, in a special way, in what refers to the consideration of this port as a fishing port, so that the necessary services and infrastructures are enabled for the fishing vessels that operate in it”, Marcos Lemes, candidate of NC to the Mayorship of Haría, has exposed on his part.

“The Port of Órzola has to transform into a port of the 21st century, modern, sustainable and that substantially improves the economy of the northern region and La Graciosa, but including in its commercial activity the coexistence with the fishing activity”, Marcos Lemes sentences.
