Following the news of the request sent to the municipal government by the only Vox councilor in the Consistory, María Esther Tamargo, for the removal of the LGBTI+ flag from the Tías City Council, the president of the Lánzate LGBTI association of the Canary Islands, Nahum Cabrera, in an interview granted this Tuesday morning for Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero, stated that "we were very amused by the letter sent from the Tías City Council."

The president emphasized that "we are very amused by the political level of Miss Tamargo" and her attitude of "attacking the island's collective." Furthermore, he acknowledges that it is something that "we already expected," and emphasizes that with the entry of far-right political forces into public administration, "it is what we will have to endure for the next four years." "We are prepared to work with these nonsense," the activist makes clear.

"We will always continue to raise the flag, with pride, whether they like it or not."

Cabrera asserts that it is "legitimate that the flag can be there" and that they will continue "raising it always, with pride, whether they like it or not." Something that "democracy allows us," he affirms. From his association, he confirms that "we work to want to be there, considering that the rainbow flag represents broad diversity, multiculturalism, etc."

With the measure taken by the councilor, Cabrera argues that "this wants to put us back in the closets." Furthermore, he reveals the importance of "Pride serving to show our reality and make it known that we exist."

"It's a call for attention to make noise now that June 28th is coming, since nobody knows her."

"It's a very big swing," he responds in relation to the proposal of the Vox councilor, confessing that for him Tamargo's attitude "is a call for attention to make noise now that June 28th is coming, since nobody knows her." And he sends a clear message to the politician, "in her hate speeches we don't fit, but in ours she does."

To conclude, he adds that "Lanzarote is widely diverse and respectful" and from his association "neither now nor ever will these claims stop," he concludes.
