The new Minister of Equality, Education and Youth of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Myriam Barros, has met in recent days with feminist groups on the island, in order to "listen to their demands, coordinate efforts and begin to outline joint actions to achieve a more egalitarian society."

“Feminism is a collective, broad and diverse movement and it is essential that feminist associations and platforms have a voice in the new direction we have taken in the Cabildo de Lanzarote”, Myriam Barros has pointed out.

Specifically, the Minister of Equality held meetings with representatives of the Mararía Social and Cultural Association for Women, the 8-M Feminist Platform of Lanzarote and Women in the Wave, with whom she intends to “work together, from sisterhood, in the design of concrete actions to advance in gender equality, in the empowerment of women and in the eradication of male violence.”

“We must eliminate sexist behaviors from our society. Lanzarote and La Graciosa have to be a place where women can live safely and that is one of our priorities”, Barros assured.

In this regard, in addition to listening to their demands, the Minister of Equality of the Cabildo de Lanzarote invited feminist groups "to present proposals in order to develop a broad and vindictive program for the next March 8, International Women's Day, as well as an agenda of events and training actions to be developed in all the municipalities of the island throughout this year", with the aim of "raising awareness and training citizens in equality and against gender violence."
