The councilwoman for Tourism, Commerce, Human Resources and Sports, Elisabet Merino Betancort (Partido Popular), participated last September in the awarding of a stall for the Tardeos de Arrecife where her brother was the beneficiary. This is according to a decree that La Voz has accessed, dated September 9, 2026, and signed by Merino herself.
This information comes to light after it was announced at the beginning of the week that Merino participated in the selection process to create a specific employment list in the specialty of Multiple Services Operator, which included her brother among the beneficiaries. In that case, even though her brother appeared on the provisional and final list of admitted candidates, Merino signed the decrees for the procedure, a practice that contradicts the obligation of abstention for administrations when direct relatives are involved in the procedure.
In the case of the food stalls for this event, the Arrecife City Council established participation requirements for the celebration of the Tardeos Arrecife 2026. Initially, this stall had been awarded to another person under the commercial name El Picoteo del Tardeo, a project for selling craft beer and traditional gastronomy. However, the beneficiary renounced this award and authorization on September 2, with the renunciation becoming effective on the 3rd.
The service was to be provided on August 27, 28, and 29, as well as on September 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, and 12 at the Arrecife Theme Park. Although the decree was signed on September 9, the measure contemplated that Eli Merino's brother would provide service at this stall on September 3, 4, and 5, prior to the signing of this decree, as well as on the 10th, 11th, and 12th. The decree included the possibility of "granting effectiveness" from September 3 if "it was proven" that her brother "met all the required conditions."
Given this renunciation, Elisabet Merino's brother expressed his willingness to assume the award of this stall. The decision was supported by a "favorable technical report" that accepted the renunciation and the continuation in favor of the councilwoman's brother, maintaining the name, the location of the stall, and the authorized offer, but on the condition that the terms of the call for applications were met.
