The Council of Ministers is scheduled to approve this Friday the dismissal of Enrique Hernández Bento as Government Delegate in the Canary Islands, a position that will be held by the senator for the Autonomous Community María Mercedes Roldós Caballero, who will have to leave her seat.
According to the newspaper La Provincia, rumors placing Roldós in the Government Delegation intensified a month ago, but sources close to her denied it, although it will finally be so. Roldós will become the tenth Government Delegate in 32 years. She will be the fourth woman to assume this function, after Carolina Darias, Dominica Fernández, both from the PSOE, and María del Carmen Hernández Bento, from the PP.
Roldós, born on March 6, 1956 in Mugardos (A Coruña), married and with a daughter, has a degree in Medicine and Surgery and has a specialist doctor position at the Doctor Negrín Hospital. She has been, among other positions, Minister of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands between 2007 and 2010.
