The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Department of the Elderly and Intergenerational Relations, will celebrate this Friday, October 2, the 3rd Awards Gala in the Field of the Elderly of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
In the category of Elderly Person of the Year, the award went to Antonio Pérez, while the recognition for Collective or Association of the Elderly has been awarded to the Association of the Elderly and Volunteers of Tías, ASOMAVO. Meanwhile, the award for Best Active Aging Project has been granted to Paseos Saludables, from the Primary Care Directorate of the Management of Health Services of the Lanzarote Health Area of the Canary Islands Health Service.
On the other hand, Trinidad García Hernández has been recognized in the Caregiver modality, and the Isla de los Volcanes - Maraua Servicios Day Center has obtained the award for Best Center for the Care of the Elderly. The distinction in the Professional category has been awarded to Agustina María García Delgado, president and reference of AFA Lanzarote.
Finally, the award for Intergenerational Project has gone to Cuentos de los Abuelos Canarios; the recognition for Solidarity has been assigned to EMERLAN - Association of Volunteers in Emergencies and Rescue of Lanzarote; and the award for Inclusivity has corresponded to Charlemos, the peer support program for LGTBI+ elderly people.
The island meeting seeks to make visible, thank, and honor the essential contribution of those individuals, groups, and entities that actively work for the well-being, social integration, and active aging on our islands.
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, highlighted that “this third edition of the Gala del Mayor consolidates a space of historical and institutional justice for our elders. It is a sincere tribute to the experience, dedication, and commitment of those who have built the present of this land and who, unequivocally, must continue to be an active and leading part of our future. The objective is to make visible the importance of continuing to build an inclusive, cohesive, and grateful society with its roots”.
For her part, the Minister of Seniors and Intergenerational Relations, Nori Machín, stressed that “the purpose of this gala and the distinctions awarded is to place our seniors at the nerve center of social policies. We must continue listening to their needs, recognizing their tireless effort, and fostering their real participation in all areas of community life,” the minister pointed out.
The official ceremony will take place starting at 11:30 AM at the Casa Museo Monumento al Campesino, located in Mozaga-San Bartolomé. After thoroughly evaluating the candidacies presented, the jury agreed to grant the awards for this third edition, extolling individual careers, community projects, and care networks essential to our society.
The gala is part of the comprehensive strategy of the Insular Plan for Active Rejuvenation+Vital, which continues to consolidate essential programs for the physical and mental well-being of the elderly population of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, such as Playa Fit, Ponte en Marcha, and the Cognitive Olympics.
