The Lanzarote native Manuel Rodríguez Rodríguez has been distinguished as “essential Carnival figure” by the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Directorate General for Seniors and Active Participation attached to the Ministry of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Childhood and Families, headed by Candelaria Delgado.

Echedey Eugenio, deputy mayor and Councilor for Festivities of Arrecife, highlights that “this well-deserved distinction recognizes the enormous contribution that Manuel Rodríguez Rodríguez has been making for four decades to our Carnival with his joyful carnival spirit and his endearing character ‘La Vieja del Perejil’, who is undoubtedly part of the soul of these festivities in our city”.

Manuel Rodríguez Rodríguez received his award this Sunday within the framework of the Canary Islands Senior Carnival 2026 jointly organized by the Government of the Canary Islands and the City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in which the 'Carnaval te quiero' awards were presented, recognizing the trajectory of deans and pioneers of the Canarian Carnival.
