The Vice President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Domínguez, has visited together with the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, the Argana neighborhood, the largest urban center on the island of Lanzarote. The council has indicated that this space is "a new pole of industrial and commercial development for Arrecife".

Manuel Domínguez, the highest official of the Ministry of Economy, Industry, Trade and Self-Employed of the Government of the Canary Islands, has been this week on the island of Lanzarote to present the Support Plan for the Self-Employed, promoted by the Government of the Canary Islands.

During his presence in Arrecife, the mayor of the city, Yonathan de León, invited Manolo Domínguez to get to know this Argana neighborhood up close

 

Argana modernization projects awarded

De León has confirmed to the Canarian vice president that the City Council has awarded the project for the drafting of the planning and modernization of the streets of Argana Alta and Argana Baja, where nearly 13,000 residents live, and the largest industrial and commercial area of the capital of Lanzarote is located.

The mayor, who is also directly responsible for the Public Works Department, has informed Domínguez that during the first four months of this year the firms awarded these transformation projects must deliver the projects to the City Council, allowing for the phased initiation of tender processes

Yonathan de León has pointed out that he wishes to count on the support and collaboration of the Government of the Canary Islands in the execution of this transformation of the urban image of this area of the city, where a significant number of commercial and industrial companies are located, which provide service to the entire island. Furthermore, the City Council has indicated that in this urban axis a surface of commercial and industrial land is concentrated, which will allow for the continued attraction of new investments and business openings.

Arrecife, according to the Tax Agency and Social Security, concentrates 37% of Lanzarote's companies, reaching a figure close to 2,000 firms, with data from the end of last 2025. "Arrecife is experiencing a moment of strength and opportunities that attracts entrepreneurs and SMEs," highlighted Yonathan de LeónThe growth has accelerated in recent months, in October there were 1,918 companies and in November 2025 the figure rises to 1,941, out of a total of 5,214 in Lanzarote. Many of the new commercial and industrial openings are located in this area of Argana, with firms dedicated to the food, logistics, automotive, construction, health supplies, repair shops and workshops, and retail and wholesale trade sectors, among others.The vice-president and minister of Economy, Industry, Trade and Self-Employed, Manuel Domínguez, has conveyed to the mayor that his departments will arbitrate ways to continue supporting the modernization of these economic sectors in the Canary Islands, in addition to the environment where they operate and work, creating new jobs
