The Socialist Party (PSOE) reports that the Canary Islands Government, through the Ministry of Public Works headed by Pablo Rodríguez (CC), has informed the deputy for Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Marcos Bergaz (PSOE), of the current status of the LZ-40 road duplication project between the Airport and Puerto del Carmen, included in the Road Agreement between the State and the Canary Islands.
In a written response, the Ministry recalls that **an environmental impact assessment was made last November** for the "Yaiza-Arrecife Road Duplication LZ-40, Airport-Puerto del Carmen Route Project," which is necessary for drafting the construction project with an estimated timeframe of four months. Once drafted, and if it complies with the environmental impact assessment, the works contract will proceed. In this regard, the Ministry confirms that, taking into account the described deadlines "and the need to have the definitive approval of the construction project, the tender cannot take place before the fourth quarter of 2026," reads the response addressed to the socialist deputy"In accordance with these forecasts," Bergaz points out, "and even more so considering the deadlines and guarantees of a tender exceeding 30 million euros, **the works will not begin until 2027**.""And that's considering a project drafted in the previous legislature with the socialist Sebastián Franquis as Minister of Public Works, but still pending, like the improvement of the LZ-1, Órzola - Guatiza; the LZ-2 link with the LZ-3 in Arrecife; or the controversial LZ-5, still in the indecision of being underground or a new highway with the Canary Islands Coalition and People's Party Government," points out Marcos Bergaz. The deputy anticipates that, "from the socialist group we will continue to monitor this and other projects, whether in road construction, housing, education, etc., although with the current Canary Islands Government, when it comes to investments in Lanzarote and the Canary Islands, Larra and his 'come back tomorrow' attitude prevails."
