The Ministry of Ecological Transition and Energy of the Government of the Canary Islands, headed by Mariano H. Zapata, reports that the registration period remains open until next Tuesday, October 21, to attend the 'Climate Refuge Days', an initiative framed within the Interreg MAC Territorial Cooperation Program, within the PLANCLIMAC2 project, and co-financed with ERDF Funds at 85%. Participation is free, with prior registration at the following link.

According to the councilor, the meeting, which will be held in the Cabildo de Lanzarote on October 22 and 23, 2025, "is born with the aim of promoting adaptation to climate change in the archipelago, promoting green, biodiverse spaces that are, above all, resilient to extreme heat and its consequences on the island population, especially children and the elderly."

Throughout the sessions, "scientists and technicians will present experiences and projects developed in different Spanish and European regions, as well as initiatives promoted in the Canary Islands that integrate climate shelters into urban and territorial planning," he detailed.

Furthermore, the councilor highlighted that "the guide for creating green climate shelters in the Canary Islands will be presented, and the foundations for the future Canary Islands network of climate shelters promoted by the Ministry will be laid."

The day on October 22nd will begin at 11:00 a.m. under the presidency of the Deputy Minister of Ecological Transition, the Fight Against Climate Change and Energy, Julieta Schallenberg, who will also present a paper on the climate shelters of the Canary Islands at 12:30 p.m. The day will continue, after coffee and lunch breaks, until 5:00 p.m. when a guided tour with practical examples will begin.

The following day, October 23, the working session will begin at 09:00 hours and will conclude around 13:40 hours with the closing thereof.
