Lara Cabrera has announced her resignation as president of New Generations of the Popular Party (PP) of Lanzarote, after considering that a series of internal decisions have been "unfair and detrimental" to the development of the party and for those who have worked for the well-being of the island. In a public letter, Cabrera expressed her disagreement with the removal of the vice-presidency of the Cabildo and the Planning and Projects area from Jacobo Medina, who was vice-president of the Cabildo and is currently Minister of Public Works.
Cabrera highlighted Medina's commitment and dedication, whom she described as a "fundamental pillar" for the PP's strategy in Lanzarote. According to the resigning member, these decisions not only weaken the party, but benefit political adversaries in an increasingly polarized scenario. "We cannot allow the decisions we make today to divide those of us who have been fighting together for a better future for Lanzarote and all of the Canary Islands," she said.
In her statement, Cabrera made a call for reflection and unity within the party, emphasizing the need to "add, not subtract" and to prioritize the collective good over personal interests. In addition, she thanked the young people who have trusted her during her term as head of New Generations, recognizing their dedication and commitment as the "true engine of change" that the island needs.
Although she reiterated her loyalty to the Popular Party, Cabrera made it clear that she cannot support decisions that, in her opinion, go against the principles of justice, coherence and unity that she has always defended.
