The publication Ten Books for an Island, edited by the Publishing Service of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, has been recognized with the silver award in the seventh edition of the Canary Islands Design Awards 2025, awards co-organized by the Association of Design Professionals and Companies of the Canary Islands and the Canary Institute for Cultural Development (ICDC). In this edition, nearly 120 projects from all over the Archipelago were distinguished

The jury has awarded this recognition to the design studio Santanasantana, led by Aythami Castellano and Iván Santana, responsible for the visual identity of this work promoted by the Cabildo. The book's graphic proposal stands out for its symbolic power, with the color red alluding to lava and the eruptive processes that marked Lanzarote's history, gray referencing volcanic ash, and black evoking the volcanic mantle that characterizes the island's landscape.

The counselor responsible for the Publications Service and the Data Center, Ascensión Toledo, has valued this award by stating that "Diez libros para una isla" (Ten books for an island) "is a choral work that brings together the voices and perspectives that have shaped our literature and cultural identity," emphasizing that this recognition "also positions Lanzarote as a benchmark in the field of graphic design applied to cultural publishing."

A Work to Read and Understand Lanzarote

The book arises from a survey conducted by the Lanzarote Island Council's Data Center among thirty individuals linked to the island's cultural sphere, who were asked to select the ten essential titles for understanding the literary, historical, and social essence of Lanzarote. The results were subjected to statistical treatment, which led to the final selection of the ten works that make up this publication.

Among the included titles are Lancelot 28º-7º, Mararía, Lanzarote, unpublished architecture, La Lapa, Lanzarote, Through the lava fields, Lanzarote Notebooks, Le Canarien, Island Treasures, and Majos, the primitive population of Lanzarote. Each chapter includes a critical analysis by local authors, accompanied by cover proposals designed specifically for this edition.
