The Area of Social Welfare and Inclusion of the Cabildo de Lanzarote has executed the project Measures for Universal Accessibility of Victims of Gender Violence with Disabilities. This initiative, developed during the last quarter of 2024, has allowed to improve accessibility in the care network for victims of gender violence on the island, guaranteeing a more inclusive and effective intervention.

Councilor Marci Acuña has stressed the importance of this action, stating that "with this project, we have taken a significant step towards universal accessibility in care services for victims of gender violence. We want all people, regardless of their disability, to be able to access comprehensive, safe and adapted care to their needs."

The project has included various actions, including an analysis with a universal accessibility perspective of the Accommodation Resources for victims of gender violence (DEMA, CAI and CA) and care (SIAM) in Lanzarote. In addition, a report and guide of recommendations has been prepared to adapt these resources to different disabilities (physical, sensory and cognitive), also designing the necessary signage in all the resources of the network dependent on the Cabildo. The project has also included the adaptation in Easy Reading of fundamental documents and materials in the intervention with the victims, including informative brochures on the available resources and the complaint procedure.

That no victim is excluded

The project culminated on the morning of last Friday, January 31, with a training day aimed at professionals in the network specialized in the care of victims of gender violence, to ensure the correct use of the designed materials.

The economic amount of this initiative amounts to 15,050 euros, financed with funds from the State Pact against Gender Violence (financial year 2024).

"This is just the beginning of a continuous work to improve accessibility in our services. From the Cabildo de Lanzarote we continue working on equality projects and inclusive care, ensuring that no victim is excluded from the protection and support system," concluded Marci Acuña.
