Lanzarote said goodbye to the month of August with maximum temperatures of 36 degrees, according to the climatological report prepared by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
In the Canary Islands as a whole, the islands registered an average temperature during the month of August of 24.2 degrees, 1.1 degrees above the reference average, making it the tenth warmest August since 1961.
Furthermore, accumulated rainfall registered an average of 2.4 mm in the archipelago, making it the twelfth wettest month in the last 65 years.
In August, 1,798 stations in the Canary Islands registered tropical nights, meaning nights when the thermometers did not drop below 20 degrees. According to Aemet, during the heatwave last month, between the 1st and 5th, all automatic meteorological stations in the archipelago registered at least one tropical night.
Regarding maximum temperatures, Lanzarote registered 36 degrees in August at the station located at the airport on the 3rd. For its part, in La Graciosa, 30.7 degrees were reached on August 2nd.
As for minimum temperatures, the station at the Haría cemetery registered the lowest on the island with 25.1 degrees on August 2nd, while in La Graciosa it was 23.1 degrees on the 15th and 21st.
Thus, the highest temperature in the archipelago in August was registered in the Gran Canarian town of Tasarte, where the mercury reached 44.4 degrees. On the contrary, the lowest value was registered by the Las Tirajanas station, also in Gran Canaria, with 31.6 degrees.
