The Socialist Group has registered a document addressed to Oswaldo Betancort in which it warns that the deficiencies proven in the inspection records of the nursing homes managed by Amavir, to which it has had access, may constitute various infractions, both administrative and criminal.
The socialists point out in their writing that the deficiencies observed in the Tías and Haría residences constitute a serious breach of the minimum conditions required with respect to facilities, personnel, hygienic and care protocols established by the Regulatory Regulation of centers and services that act in the field of promoting personal autonomy and care for people in situations of dependency in the Canary Islands.
In the document, the Socialist Group warns that given this situation, the Cabildo's responsibility is clear, since the Canary Islands Social Services Law establishes the obligation to inform the Public Prosecutor's Office of facts that, in addition to administrative responsibility, could be classified as crimes in the Penal Code.
According to the spokesperson for the Socialist Group, Ariagona González, «the communication to the Prosecutor's Office is not only an obligation of the Cabildo, but the appropriate channel to activate the highest level of legal protection provided for especially vulnerable people, since the legislation entrusts the Public Prosecutor's Office to intervene in proceedings in which minors, incapacitated or helpless individuals are involved».
Regardless of the transfer of the minutes to the Public Prosecutor's Office, the Socialist Group considers it urgent to intervene in the management of the residences, to guarantee the immediate resolution of the deficiencies detected by the inspections of the Cabildo itself and the Government of the Canary Islands.
Just as the spokesperson has pointed out, "the Cabildo has to intervene in the residences urgently. After two months since our complaint, Marciano Acuña could not 'keep waiting' for the company, as he answered in the last Plenary".
“It is urgent to restore dignity to the people admitted to the residences and to reassure families, and the concern does not arise from the complaint of the Socialist Group, but from the passivity and lack of response from the Insular Government,” González concluded.
