The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Island Sports Service and in collaboration with the Wrestling Federation, have launched a project to promote this discipline in all educational centers on the Island. For this project, the Island Corporation has injected an amount that amounts to 175,000 euros.

The presentation of this event was attended by the president of the Island Corporation, Oswaldo Betancort; the Minister of Sports, Juan Monzón; the president of the Canary Wrestling Federation of Lanzarote, Sebastián Lemes; the project coordinator Diego Cazorla and representatives of the different clubs on the island.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, highlighted the relevance of the agreement, stating that "this project will allow not only the teaching of Canarian wrestling, but also the transmission of essential values such as respect, equality and social integration."

For his part, Councilor Juan Monzón pointed out that with this project "something as important as the dissemination of our native sport will be achieved." In addition, he thanked the clubs for supporting this initiative, which will have six people with a stable position, a coordinator and five monitors who will join all the schools in Lanzarote and La Graciosa.

The president of the Canary Wrestling Federation of Lanzarote, Sebastián Lemes, pointed out that "for the first time in history we will have a project that will promote this sport to boys and girls, so that they can learn about it firsthand and practice it."

"We hope that we can nurture all the educational centers of both islands to get talent from this sport and that something that identifies us as a Canarian people does not get lost," stressed the project coordinator, Diego Cazorla.

In this sense, the president of the Tao Wrestling Club, Francisco Díaz, highlighted that this discipline will be very favored with this initiative that will publicize the talent of the archipelago. "Every Canarian or person who lives here should at least know what is part of our culture and our traditions," he added.

This project not only seeks to get schoolchildren in Lanzarote started in Canarian wrestling, but also to promote education in values. The activities will be designed in an environment of gender equality, ensuring that all students, regardless of their physical abilities, participate and benefit from this initiative.

The Cabildo will ensure the correct development of this program, periodically evaluating the impact and compliance with the objectives set. Both institutions plan to prepare follow-up reports that allow continuous improvement of the project and an analysis of its impact on schools.
