The Island Sports Service of the Cabildo de Lanzarote has presented the XI edition of the Open Water Swimming Cup, a sporting event that returns and that will tour the island during the summer months, from June to October 2025.
This event, which was born in 2010, returns in its original format with the aim of promoting the practice of open water swimming and promoting the participation of athletes of all ages, both individually and in representation of sports clubs.
In this new edition, six crossings will run through different municipalities of the island: El Reducto (Arrecife), La Tiñosa (Tías), San Ginés (Arrecife), Playa Honda (San Bartolomé), Playa del Jablillo (Teguise) and Playa de Papagayo (Yaiza).
The Minister of Sports of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Juan Monzón, stressed that this Cup "recovers one of the most beloved competitions by the island's swimmers, promoting outdoor sports, respect for the environment and the direct involvement of clubs in its development." "From the Island Sports Service we wanted to take a step forward in the organization of this event, in collaboration with sports entities, to continue promoting a participatory model open to all citizens," he added.
Monzón also thanked "the involvement of the six organizing clubs for enthusiastically joining this project, which returns with more strength, with a well-structured calendar and with the illusion of re-establishing itself as a benchmark in Canarian open water swimming."
The XI Open Water Cup is "an example of the Cabildo de Lanzarote's commitment to inclusive, sustainable and grassroots sports, and reinforces the island's image as a privileged destination for sports practice throughout the year."
