The Governing Council of the Cabildo de Lanzarote approved this Monday a collaboration agreement with the Sociocultural Association La Vida es Zuaina to promote initiatives aimed at social integration and the progress of the most vulnerable groups of the island.

The agreement establishes the transfer of a plot of approximately 714.5 square meters at the facilities of the Lanzarote Agricultural Biodiversity Center (CBAL), located in the Maneje neighborhood. This space is part of a property owned by the Cabildo, with a total area of 43,960 square meters intended for organic farming and the conservation of native species.

The Councilor for Landscape and Food Sovereignty of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Samuel Martín, highlighted that “this agreement reinforces the Cabildo's commitment to social entities that carry out essential work in our neighborhoods, facilitating public resources for projects that improve people's quality of life.”

"With this transfer we support the work that this association has been carrying out for years with the child and youth population, while also promoting values such as respect for the territory, the learning of traditional agricultural practices, and the conservation of our agricultural biodiversity," added the counselor.

The collaboration will allow the association to develop projects linked to agriculture, environmental education and community work, favoring the participation of people at risk of social exclusion and strengthening the link between citizens and Lanzarote's agricultural heritage. The initiative also seeks to promote the production and valorization of local varieties, contributing to prevent the loss of cultural heritage associated with the countryside.

It should be noted that the Sociocultural Association La Vida es Zuaina has been developing social intervention projects since 2015 in the Argana Alta neighborhood, where it is headquartered a few meters from the CBAL. Its main objective is to reduce the risk of social exclusion among the child and youth population of the area, promoting citizen participation, volunteerism and the realization of cultural, artistic and environmental activities.

Thanks to this agreement, the association will be able to develop activities related to the cultivation of local varieties, agricultural training and environmental awareness, contributing at the same time to the conservation of Lanzarote's agricultural heritage.
