The Governing Council of the Cabildo of Lanzarote approves the call for subsidies aimed at supporting the feeding of ovine and caprine replacement animals with a total economic allocation of 500,000 euros.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Oswaldo Betancort, highlights the importance of supporting these aids to guarantee the continuity of the primary sector on the island in the face of the rise in livestock feed costs.

“It is a fundamental measure to protect our farmers and ensure the future of a strategic sector for Lanzarote,” says the counselor, who also highlights that “the increase in food expenses is putting the viability of many farms at risk.”

The measure not only aims to alleviate the costs borne by the island's farms, but also to promote the renewal and maintenance of the island's livestock herd, especially affected in recent years by the increase in the price of feed and other basic raw materials.

Betancort states that “with this measure we directly support the renewal of the sheep and goat herd and allow farms to maintain their activity under more sustainable conditions. Breeding represents a significant economic effort for farmers and this aid aims to alleviate part of that burden”.

The subsidy may reach up to 200 euros for each breeding female ovine or caprine born in 2025 and subjected to the rearing process. The application forms will be available to interested parties at the offices of the Insular Agrarian Service located on the Tahiche–San Bartolomé Road or at the electronic headquarters of the Cabildo.

The application submission period is 30 calendar days from the official publication of the call in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas, which can be done through the electronic headquarters of the Cabildo de Lanzarote or at the Insular Agrarian Service.
