The Insular Government Council has approved this Monday the selection of four properties intended to expand by a hundred places the network of social and health centers of the island, an action promoted by the Area of Social Welfare and Inclusion within the framework of the program "Equipment for person-centered care", of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. The initiative represents an investment of almost five million euros and is financed by the European Union "Next Generation EU".

President Oswaldo Betancort has highlighted how the Corporation thus achieves the effective expansion of its socio-health network in Lanzarote and La Graciosa: “This government group is demonstrating with facts its commitment to improving public resources destined for the care and attention of those who need it most, so that no one is left behind,” Betancort stated.

For his part, the Councillor for Social Welfare and Inclusion, Marci Acuña, has highlighted that “the selection of these offers allows us to move towards the creation of new residential and day care places that will improve care for elderly people and people with disabilities,” he explained.

María Jesús Tovar, vice president and counselor of the Project Planning and Coordination Unit, has stated that this investment, financed with European funds, “will allow the creation of new places and the adaptation of infrastructures to improve care for the elderly and people with disabilities, guaranteeing more modern public resources adequate to their needs”.

The completed procedure has had as its objective the selection of properties in different municipalities of the island that allow expanding the network of socio-health resources to adapt them to the new care model focused on people and long-term care.

After the technical and economic valuation process of the properties presented and the corresponding verification visits, the Governing Council has agreed to select several properties to continue with the patrimonial acquisition procedures for: a property in Arrecife (complete building with 9 dwellings) intended for residential resource, for an amount of 1,900,000 euros; a property in Tinajo intended for a day care center, for an amount of 1,200,000 euros; another property in Arrecife intended for a day care center, for an amount of €1,199,712.37; and a third property in the capital, intended for a day care center, for an amount of 675,000 euros.

Likewise, the lots offered in Haría and Yaiza have been declared deserted, as no valid offers were submitted or the requirements established in the specifications were not met.

This strategy is part of the Island Strategy to strengthen the care system and expand the network of social and health care places on the island, contributing to the fulfillment of the objectives of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan linked to the development of the new long-term care model.

New addendum to expand financing

In parallel, the Cabildo de Lanzarote is processing a new addendum to the agreement signed with the Department of Social Welfare of the Government of the Canary Islands, with the objective of increasing the funding allocated to the creation and adaptation of socio-health infrastructures on the island.

This new modification will allow increasing the economic contribution of the agreement up to 10.4 million euros and expand the number of planned socio-health places, reaching a total of 200 residential and day care places, intended to adapt or create resources to the new person-centered long-term care model.

The contemplated actions include both the acquisition and adaptation of properties as well as the construction of new infrastructures aimed at improving the care for elderly people and people with disabilities on the island of Lanzarote.
