The Cabildo of Lanzarote has approved the new contract for the conservation, maintenance, rehabilitation and improvement of the road margins of the island, with a total investment of 4,605,541.44 euros.
This contract will guarantee the adequate care and beautification of the road margins, reinforcing the safety and the landscape integration of the island network.
The works include cleaning, clearing, replacement and planting of vegetation, cleaning of the island palm grove, with the aim of keeping the roads in optimal conditions and improving the user experience.
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, highlighted that this contract "represents a further step in our commitment to offer residents and visitors safer, cleaner and more cared for roads, which not only facilitate mobility, but also reflect the image of a sustainable and well-maintained island."
"From day one I said that we would work for a Lanzarote that looks and feels better, and this contract is a firm step in that direction. Every kilometer cared for is a commitment fulfilled with our land and with those who travel it every day."
For his part, the Councilor for Public Works, Jacobo Medina, stressed that the conservation of the margins "is essential to prevent risks, such as landslides or loss of visibility, and to ensure that our roads are integrated into the environment, taking care of both road safety and the island's landscape." Medina pointed out that "this contract will allow us to act continuously and in a planned manner in all the municipalities, attending to the demands of the citizens and the town councils."
It should be remembered that the Island Road Margins Service was recovered in March 2024, thus guaranteeing the continuity of a staff of 31 workers who were in a situation of vulnerability after the abandonment of the previous Government.
The next step to be taken by the Cabildo of Lanzarote will be the tendering of this service, which is expected to take place in the coming weeks, in order to put into operation this department that is so important for the care of the island of Lanzarote.
