The Lanzarote Safety and Emergency Consortium has presented a new flood container for electric vehicles, a pioneering tool in the Canary Islands designed to guarantee the total extinguishing of fires in cars, vans, motorcycles, bicycles, or electric scooters.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, highlighted the importance of continuing to provide the fire department and emergency services "with the best material resources." "With this new container, Lanzarote is once again at the forefront of safety and emergency response, offering a modern, effective, and safe response to situations that are becoming increasingly frequent due to the increase in electric mobility," he stated.

For her part, the vice president of the Cabildo, María Jesús Tovar, pointed out that "this incorporation not only improves the operational capacity of the Consortium, but also reinforces this Corporation's commitment to innovation and sustainability."

Finally, the president of the Security and Emergency Consortium, Francisco J. Aparicio, emphasized the "pioneering" nature of this new resource in the archipelago. "We are looking at a unique tool in the Canary Islands, designed specifically for the total extinguishing of fires in electric vehicles. It guarantees the safety of those involved and avoids subsequent risks of reignition or explosion. It is another step in the modernization of the Consortium and in the protection of people and the environment," he asserted.

A key element for the total extinction of the vehicle

The new equipment, six meters long by 2.30 meters of useful interior width, is manufactured with a high-resistance metal structure and incorporates a winch that allows the vehicle to be dragged from the outside to the inside of the container.

Its operation is based on the total submersion of the vehicle once the fire is extinguished, a measure that prevents any possibility of reignition of the batteries. This risk is common after fires in electric vehicles, as high temperatures can melt the cells that separate the batteries, generating new contacts that could cause explosions or new outbreaks of fire.

Until now, the Consortium only had a canvas bag for this type of intervention, with limited uses and less durability. With this acquisition, Lanzarote now has a container with unlimited use and high resistance, which will increase the safety of emergency personnel and optimize the response to this type of incident.
