Cristóbal Tabares and Pedro Ayose, with the moderation of the writer Mare Cabrera, will star this Tuesday in El Almacén, a public conversation that, twenty-five years later, recovers the memory of the controversial gala for the election of misses held during the San Ginés festivities in Arrecife in the year 2000.
The Culture Councilor of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Jesús Machín Tavío, encourages citizens to participate in this activity "that invites us to look at our recent history from reflection and encounter, reinforcing the importance of preserving and debating the cultural expressions that are part of the identity of Lanzarote."
The meeting will propose a tour of documentary and testimonial materials, as well as an aesthetic and anthropological reading of this type of contest, to place them in dialogue with the counterculture and with the popular art practices that have accompanied the festive life of the island. Planned as a talk-gala, the session will combine analysis with a tone close to the spectacle.
Twenty-five years after that contest, its memory allows us to reflect on the evolution of beauty contests on the island, their role in the construction of collective imaginaries, and the social changes that have transformed the public perception of this type of event.
The conversation Misses, counterculture and popular art will take place on Tuesday, August 12, at 7:30 p.m., at the CIC El Almacén (Arrecife), with free admission until full capacity.
