The Cabildo of Lanzarote, in collaboration with the ATRIA Association and the Arrecife City Council, has successfully celebrated the 1st Conference on Menopause in Lanzarote, held on October 18 and 19. The event fulfilled the objective of offering key information about this vital stage, dispelling misconceptions, and improving the well-being and quality of life of women on the Island.

During the two days of the conference, the participants in the presentations and workshops addressed many topics related to this physiological process. At the end, they praised the relevance of the presented content, highlighting the importance of continuing to create spaces where women's experiences about menopause are shared.

The Councilor of the Area of Social Welfare and Inclusion, Marci Acuña, was in charge of inaugurating the presentations, reiterating "the need to give continuity to this type of initiatives." In his speech, Acuña announced that "the Cabildo will continue working on making menopause visible and ensuring that all women on the island have the necessary tools to live this stage with health and well-being.”

For her part, the director of the ATRIA Association project, María Eugenia Fernández, expressed her satisfaction with the success of the conference and stressed that it was important to create a space where women could feel heard and receive quality information. “Thanks to the support of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Arrecife City Council, we have been able to offer a day of great value for all attendees,” she said.

Interesting presentations and workshops

On the first day, October 18, several presentations were held that addressed fundamental issues about menopause. Among the topics covered, the conference Menopause: Fears and Truths stood out, in which erroneous beliefs about this stage were dispelled and verified information was offered about the physical and emotional changes that women experience. Next, the talk on osteoporosis took place, in which the importance of prevention and early treatment to avoid long-term complications was emphasized.

Another essential aspect that was addressed was the pelvic floor, a topic that is often neglected but is key to women's health. Finally, the conference "Menopause: Challenge and Opportunity" offered a reflection on how this moment in life can represent a challenge, and an opportunity for personal growth and self-knowledge.

One of the highlights of the day was the presentation of an excerpt from The Vagina Monologues, which brought a cultural and emotional approach to the event. This representation offered moments of reflection and humor, helping to put women's experiences on the table in an enjoyable and close way.

The second day, October 19, was dedicated to practical workshops, held at the El Zaguán Citizen Participation Center, in Argana Alta. These classes offered attendees practical knowledge in crucial areas such as vaginal health, where specific guidelines were provided for intimate care and the prevention of gynecological problems.

One of the workshops that aroused great interest was Know Yourself, focused on helping women better understand the physical and emotional changes they experience during this stage. On the other hand, the Aesthetics in Menopause workshop offered practical tips for personal care and general well-being, while the workshop on pelvic floor care provided specific exercises and recommendations to improve health in that area.
