The Insular Water Council of Lanzarote has published two tenders, for a global amount of 5 million euros, intended for the execution of actions on hydraulic infrastructures of Lanzarote and La Graciosa within the framework agreement approved with the declaration of the water emergency.
These tenders correspond to two differentiated lines of intervention within the aforementioned framework agreement. On the one hand, the execution of works to renovate the supply network of the island's general system is contemplated, with a budget of 3 million euros, aimed at reducing network losses and improving system efficiency.
On the other hand, actions and land clearing work are included in different sections of riverbeds belonging to the public hydraulic domain of the Hydrographic Demarcation of Lanzarote, with an allocation of 2 million euros, with the aim of improving the drainage capacity and the proper functioning of these spaces.
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Insular Water Council, Oswaldo Betancort, has pointed out that “this framework agreement, supported by the water emergency, allows us to act with agility to reduce water losses and improve hydraulic security throughout the island,” highlighting the usefulness of this instrument for optimizing the execution of priority actions.
For his part, the Water Councilor of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Domingo Cejas, has valued the speed with which the processing of the tender process has been developed, emphasizing that "in a short period of time we have been able to activate this framework agreement, which is part of a global plan that reaches 6.4 million euros approved by the Insular Water Council, which allows us to provide an agile and effective response to the needs of the island's hydraulic system".
These actions are part of the coordinated work that the Insular Water Council and the Lanzarote Water Consortium have been developing, joining forces to respond to the water emergency situation affecting the island. This institutional collaboration allows for the optimization of resources, the alignment of investment planning, and joint progress in improving the integral water cycle, both in terms of supply and the management of the public hydraulic domain.
With this initiative, both island entities reinforce their commitment to the modernization of hydraulic infrastructures, the reduction of network losses, and the improvement of the system's safety and efficiency in Lanzarote and La Graciosa, in a context that demands maximum coordination and collaboration between administrations.
The deadline for submitting bids will end on June 1, 2026, with the processing carried out through the Public Sector Procurement Platform.
