LanzaEntiende LGTBIQ+ denounces having been excluded by the Cabildo from an institutional act

The LanzaEntiende LGTBIQ+ association of Lanzarote and La Graciosa have publicly denounced that the Cabildo of Lanzarote has excluded the association from the events organized for the celebration of International LGTBIQ+ Pride Day.

For the first time in seven years, the association has not been invited to the events organized by the Diversity Area attached to the Social Welfare and Inclusion Area of the Cabildo of Lanzarote in an institutional and reivindicative event held on June 26 on the facade of the Cabildo.

At the event itself, which was attended by other LGTBIQ+ associations on the island, a banner with the slogan Example of coexistence was carried with all the logos of the Lanzarote associations, except for LanzaEntiende.

The association states that "this regrettable incident is added to what happened at the signing of the Insular Pact against Hate Speech in 2024, where LanzaEntiende was also excluded and we decided not to comment out of respect for the institution and the collective itself, attributing what happened to a possible 'misunderstanding'".

From the association they assure that they will take "all necessary measures to denounce these actions through all possible means", which in their opinion, "constitute a veto, exclusion and discrimination towards our entity and the associates we represent".

"At LanzaEntiende we have always been characterized by discretion and continuous work without getting involved in controversies or statements that could damage the image of the institution or the collective. But the current situation is completely inadmissible," they state.

Likewise, they lament "the lack of dialogue, consensus, unity and common sense among the associations on this island. Lanzarote is the island with the highest number of LGTBIQ+ associations per capita. An absurdly divided struggle."

In this regard, they point out that "achieving the fundamental rights of our collective requires unity and joint work, and not divisive actions or unjustified vetoes. We ourselves must be an 'example of coexistence' as the slogan on the banner shown at the Cabildo states."
