A delegation from Graciosa, made up of Miguel Páez, Eduardo Hernández and María José Páez, has traveled to Madrid in order to visit the Congress of Deputies and transfer a total of 18,500 signatures of support for the consideration of La Graciosa as the eighth island of the Archipelago and its political and administrative recognition.
The representatives from Graciosa were received this Thursday by the national deputy of the PSOE of the Canary Islands, Sebastián Franquis, by Francisco Cabrera of the PP and by the deputy of CC Ana Oramas. In these meetings, according to a statement from the PSOE, the delegation from La Graciosa explained "the arguments for their request and the long struggle of this island to acquire rights and coverage for its needs and demands."
In the document, supported by 18,500 people, "the interest of Graciosa residents and visitors in preserving the territory and for development based on the sustainability of its natural resources is highlighted."
In addition, emphasis is placed on the need to implement a small administration of its own, called a Minor Local Entity, "given its island status and distance from the capital of its municipality"; as well as granting La Graciosa its own budget and consolidating the operation of the Citizen Council "as a tool for participatory management of public affairs."
