The Lanzarote parliamentarian of the Canarian Nationalist Group (CC-PNC-AHI), Jesús Machín Tavío, regrets that "people interested in obtaining the Recreational Boat Skipper (PER) title from non-capital islands such as Lanzarote are forced to move to Gran Canaria or Tenerife to be able to take the theoretical exams."

“The BOC establishes that all people from non-capital islands who want to obtain nautical qualifications must take the tests in the provincial capitals. "Therefore, the holding of tests is eliminated from Lanzarote, having on the island itself the best fishing school, recognized by the entire sector as the reference school," Machín highlights. He describes the measure of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries as "incoherent and inexplicable."

The nationalist parliamentarian recalled last Wednesday in parliament that although he understands that "with the pandemic it was decided to restrict the holding of tests to Gran Canaria and Tenerife", what he does not understand is that "it has been decided to maintain that situation with the grievance that it implies for the rest of the Archipelago."

“Each year, about 80 people from La Graciosa, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura take this type of test,” Machín emphasizes, adding that “for these exams to be taken, some of the candidates, as is the case with residents of La Graciosa, have to go through a real Odyssey.”

Take a boat from Caleta de Sebo, then the journey to the Lanzarote airport, plane to Gran Canaria and then the journey to the offices where the exam is taken. And the same in reverse,” he emphasizes, without forgetting that “the court that examines these students must also travel.”
