The Cleaning Councilor of the Arrecife City Council, Jacobo Lemes, urges the Contracting Body to initiate the opening of six new penalty files to the cleaning service concessionaire, Urbaser S.A, for breach of contract, the amount of which amounts to 348,000 euros.
Two of the aforementioned sanctioning files have been classified as serious and the other four as very serious.
As explained by the mayor, one of these files is motivated by the lack of maintenance or misuse of the machinery and municipal facilities transferred to the service, three for the lack of cleaning and maintenance service of containers and the remaining two for deficiencies in the garbage collection service, which has caused overflow in different parts of the city.
“After opening and reiterating different informative files for monitoring the service and communicating to the company that it should proceed to correct all the deficiencies, and not obtaining a response, the next step is the initiation of an administrative procedure for the imposition of penalties”, said the mayor, who insists that, far from solving these incidents, the awarding company persists in them, “causing health problems and damaging the image of the service”.
Thus, Lemes insists that “we cannot allow a service that is vital for the well-being of the entire population of Arrecife, not to be provided with all the guarantees”.
