The Canary Coalition Assembly in Arrecife has appointed Jacobo Lemes as head of the Local Secretariat, after the unanimous vote of all the members gathered this Friday at the UD Lanzarote club headquarters.
The event was attended by the island secretary of the nationalist formation on the island, Migdalia Machín, who highlighted her satisfaction with the renewal process of the different local committees "which has been exemplary" noting "the good health of our political organization so I foresee a hopeful future to continue growing".
The event was also attended by the Secretary of Organization, Echedey Eugenio, the Secretary of the Canary Nationalist Youth (JNC) and regional parliamentarian, Jesús Machín Tavío, and the Secretary of the Lanzarote Nationalist Youth (JNL), Sara Bermúdez, as well as the local secretaries of Tías, (Sandra Rodríguez), Yaiza (Mateo Ramón), San Bartolomé (Eduardo Díaz) and Haría (Víctor Robayna). Among the public officials, the event was attended by the mayor of Haría, Chaxiraxi Niz, and the regional parliamentarian, David De la Hoz.
After his election, Jacobo Lemes thanked his committee colleagues for their support to continue the work that has been carried out over the last few years, although he acknowledged the difficulty of the task entrusted to him: "I want to thank the outgoing team and all those people who under the direction of Orlando (Umpiérrez) and Abi (González) led this organization to have the best electoral results in the history of democracy in our city. It is not easy to improve it, or even maintain it, but I am convinced that we can do it and we will."
The new local secretary of Arrecife concluded his speech by calling for unity among all the members of the assembly of the island's capital, because "this will not be a closed committee, no one is missing here, everyone who can contribute from their experience fits in here and those who will do so from the desire and enthusiasm of those who are starting in this."
Before the speech of the new local secretary of Arrecife, the outgoing secretary, Orlando Umpiérrez, took the floor, who in his management report made a tour of the work carried out by the local committee over the last few years, emphasizing "the good work carried out by the government teams led by Pedro San Ginés in the Cabildo of Lanzarote and Manuel Fajardo in the City Council of Arrecife, which was an example of good management."
In the tour of the management of the Local Committee of Arrecife in recent years, Umpiérrez focused on the importance of the creation of the committee that meant "the union of social, cultural and sports groups and agents, among others; and brought together around this project all the people who can contribute something positive for our municipality."
The outgoing local secretary also referred to the difficult decision that led to the departure from the government of Arrecife and "the great work done later making a serious and responsible opposition"; and to the "wise decision" that led to the election of the electoral list that ran in the elections for the Mayor of Arrecife, "we broke the barrier of territoriality, knowing that the best person to lead it is our current spokesman Echedey Eugenio, who together with the team, obtained the best electoral result in the history of the municipality, nine councilor seats that scared the other formations so much that they did not hesitate to leave us out of the government", even agreeing between forces as diametrically opposed from the ideological point of view as PSOE and PP.
Finally, Orlando Umpiérrez thanked for the support received during the time he has been in charge of the Local Committee of Arrecife, and had words for Abigail González, Echedey and Eugenio and the new local secretary, Jacobo Lemes because "I believe they are the present and future to continue guiding this good human team for the good of Arrecife." In the direction of the committee, Jacobo Lemes will be accompanied by Abigail González Guillén as Secretary of Organization and Jorge de la Guardia García as Deputy Secretary.

Jacobo Lemes Duarte was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on September 9, 1978, has lived since childhood in the neighborhood of Titerroy, is married and is the father of a girl. For 21 years he was one of the great figures of the traditional sport par excellence of the islands, the Canarian Wrestling, one of his great passions, although he has now changed the sand of the field for the bicycle.
After completing his vocational training studies, he began his career in the family business, dedicated to carpentry. There he worked as a freelancer for 15 years.
In 2008 he joined the Canary Coalition and in 2011 he ran in his first elections.
Jacobo "is convinced that CC is the only possible option for Arrecife to come back to life." As he himself says: "we have a lot of work to do. A few years ago we managed to give a change to a city that, until the arrival of the Canary Coalition, was lost, without direction and without stability. That's how it is now again and that's what we have to change and get, that the people of Arrecife are proud of their city again."
