Inalsa claims that San Ginés "accepted and hid" a third contract that "also benefited his friend Calatayud"

The current administration denounces that the former president "lied to the opposition about the payments to Calatayud for the bankruptcy proceedings, hiding the existence of this third budget and the 64,200 euros that his friend charged for it"

The lawyer Ignacio Calatayud

Insular de Aguas de Lanzarote has reported on the existence of a third contract in favor of Ignacio Calatayud Prats signed by Pedro San Ginés, as CEO of the company, through the acceptance of a budget dated April 23, 2012, for which he ended up charging another 64,200 euros.

"The purpose of this contract was the intervention of San Ginés' friend lawyer in the so-called agreement phase of the Inalsa bankruptcy procedure and it was fixed, as fees, 'the same amount that one of the bankruptcy administrators accrues for the agreement phase'," they point out in a statement.

"In any case, San Ginés guaranteed his friend lawyer a minimum amount and thus, the fees for this phase would be, at least, '70% of what was charged by the lawyer Ignacio Calatayud Prats in the agreement phase', which amounts to a total of 64,500 euros" plus IGIC, he adds, recalling that for that first phase he had already charged 86,000 euros.

According to them, "this new budget was necessary because, although the first budget accepted by San Ginés on January 27, 2010 included all the phases of the contest for a total amount of approximately 200,000 euros, that first budget was replaced by another on March 15, 2010 limited to the common phase of the contest, in which the subsequent phases (such as the agreement phase) and the incidents were excluded from it, which made it necessary to contract those parts of the contest separately".

Subsequently, Calatayud registered a writing stating that "given the crisis situation that the company Inalsa is going through and given the crisis situation that the country is experiencing, the undersigned limits his fees to the figure of 60,000 euros without IGIC for the agreement phase", which amounted to 64,200 euros including the tax.

"Apparently, the crises suffered by Inalsa and the country led Ignacio Calatayud to reduce his fees for the agreement phase by 4,500 euros, while he charged more than 156,000 euros between the common phase and the agreement phase", they emphasize from Inalsa.

A "reduction" that meant an increase of 50%

However, they denounce that "in reality, that supposed 'reduction' was very burdensome for Inalsa because it meant an increase in fees of more than 50% compared to those established for the agreement phase in the first contract signed by San Ginés on January 27, 2010, in which a price of 40,000 euros had been set for that same phase of the contest, for which Calatayud ended up charging a total of 64,200 euros".

In this way, they maintain that "the acceptance of this new budget by San Ginés, on April 23, 2012, significantly benefited his friend Calatayud, since it allowed him to bill 50 percent more than what had initially been established for the agreement phase".

To this, they add that "this improvement in Calatayud's conditions is added to the specific exclusion of the incidents that was made in the contract of March 15, 2010, and that is the basis on which the lawyer hired by San Ginés bases his new claim of 82,000 euros to Inalsa, as fees for one of those incidents".

"San Ginés lied to the opposition about the payments to Calatayud"

In addition, they denounce that the existence of this third contract and the payments made to Calatayud in accordance with it, "was kept hidden by the former president of the Cabildo and Inalsa, to the point of having been silenced in the writing that Pedro San Ginés officially signed on October 15, 2015 answering the questions about the payments to his friend Ignacio Calatayud", which had been formulated by the Podemos Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote.

"San Ginés' official response did not include the payments to Calatayud for this third contract, which had been made two years earlier, so the former CEO of Inalsa, lied in the information he provided to the opposition groups, hiding the existence of this third budget that benefited his friend Calatayud in a significant way, who received 64,200 euros from it", they warn.

In said official writing of October 15, 2015, San Ginés answered the opposition that Calatayud had charged a total of 86,900 euros for the bankruptcy proceedings, ignoring the other contract that he himself had signed almost three years before for the agreement phase, "whose amount was paid to Calatayud in that same year for an amount of 64,200 euros".
