The director of the National Geographic Institute (IGN) in the Canary Islands, María José Blanco, and the head of Geophysics of the aforementioned center, Carmen López, confirmed this Wednesday that the two spots that appeared two and a half miles from the Port of La Restinga "are the first surface evidence of the volcanic eruption that began on October 10."

As a continuation of their analysis of the situation, both scientists reported that water samples had been collected to be analyzed to confirm the existence of gases of magmatic origin, as well as fish that have appeared dead in the same area and the remains of black coral that has come to the surface.

Carmen López stressed that at this time we are facing a single eruption with two points of submarine emission, which means that it is not necessary to take more preventive measures towards the population than those that have already been adopted. However, she assured that other emission points cannot be ruled out, although she insisted that the tremor signal is stabilized.

It must be remembered that the volcanic eruption currently has two emission points, the first of which is located about 750 meters deep and the second at 500.
