Intersindical Canaria has presented before the General Directorate of Labor a strike notice for June 3, "which affects the entire staff assigned to the Blood Bank and Hematology Service" of the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital. The union affirms that it has already reported this to the Management of the Lanzarote Health Area.
The union representatives affirm that they have taken this measure "with the objective of remedying a situation that has been prolonged over time, and to which the Management of the hospital center has not responded despite the multiple requests made by Intersindical Canaria."
According to Coralia Lobato, member of the Personnel Board of said center, "the current situation of this service is unsustainable, since a single technician on the night shift is forced to provide their services both in the emergency hematology laboratory and in the blood bank." Circumstance to which she points out that "the characteristics of the hospital infrastructure itself are added, since both services are separated, which entails a continuous transfer of material and the worker to the area where their services are required."
In addition, Intersindical Canaria points out that "the last expansion of the staff occurred in 2007, with the hiring of a technician for the afternoon shift." "Twelve years later, the growth of the island's population as well as the service provided to tourists, make it necessary to incorporate new personnel", claims the union that, on the contrary, affirms that "the center has carried out the expansion of other specialties, including hematologists, who have gone from two to five in the same period of time.
Thus, for Intersindical Canaria, the hiring of one more laboratory technician to cover the needs of the night shift is urgent
