The Tías City Council has expressed its "total opposition and express disagreement" to the declaration of general interest, by the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Energy of the Government of the Canary Islands, of the "Tías I Solar Photovoltaic Installation" project, due to "urban incompatibility, insurmountable landscape impact, and proven social rejection".

The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz Saavedra, requests in the notification sent today to the Government of the Canary Islands that local autonomy and the protection of rural land for agricultural protection also be respected, "avoiding a precedent that compromises the territorial identity of our municipality".

Cruz Saavedra states that the City Council "is not against renewable energies," but argues that their implementation must be done "with planning, with respect for the territory, with environmental guarantees, and by listening to the affected population."

"Renewables yes, but not at the expense of the territory. What we are not going to allow is for the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo of Lanzarote to use Tías as a space to place energy projects without order, without dialogue, and without respect for our urban planning," states the mayor.

For the Tías City Council, the declaration of general interest of the project by the Government of the Canary Islands represents a clear incompatibility with urban planning and agricultural protection and an unacceptable landscape impact. Furthermore, it lacks justified reasons of urgency or exceptional interest, poses a risk to public infrastructure and safety, and violates the principle of proportionality and local autonomy.

The project "Grid connection solar photovoltaic installation of 1.176 MWp" has been promoted by the company RS IBERIA 23 and includes the occupation of 28,721 square meters in the Mácher area with 1,680 solar modules and a transformation center, among other facilities.
