Spills on Playa Grande in Punta Mujeres

The Haría City Council has once again denounced this Thursday, February 1, a new discharge of sewage into the northern coastline that, on this occasion, affects Playa Grande in Punta Mujeres.

Thus, and to guarantee the safety of bathers, the Council has decreed the prohibition of bathing in this area until further notice and has urged the competent authorities, as well as the company Canal Gestión, to proceed, immediately, to solve this situation and to repair the damage caused after the contamination.

The mayor Alfredo Villalba emphasizes that "unfortunately, this situation is repeated again, since at the beginning of this week we had to close the bathing area of the natural pools between the Cura pool and the Pichón pool".

Villalba demands that "an end be put, as quickly as possible, to the contamination in our waters and that the necessary actions be taken to solve this unpleasant situation, which not only affects bathers and residents of the area, but also the flora and fauna of the marine environment".

From the Haría City Council they have communicated the notice of these new discharges to the health authorities; to the Consortium of Security and Emergencies of Lanzarote; to the Seprona; to the Water Consortium of the Island, and to the responsible company Canal Gestión, so that the origin of these discharges of sewage is analyzed and responsibilities are purged.
